We have built quite a few vehicles utilizing SPAL brushless fans on a number of different radiator configurations. With every vehicle having a uniquely shaped radiator, we were building custom over flow tanks for every vehicle. In an effort to speed up our build process, we set out to come up with a design that would work for every application using these brushless fans. This design allows us to simply mount it to the radiator via two of the fan mounting bolts.
We have spent a lot of time making sure that this overflow tank truly works as it needs to. Inside of our tank are two independent aluminum straws. The -4AN male fitting on top of the tank is the main overflow input and will connect to your radiator. That input fitting extends to the bottom of the tank allowing the radiator to pull coolant back into the radiator. The small ¼” tube that extends from the bottom is the overflow. That tube runs up toward the top of the tank. So if you are not paying attention to the level, it will overflow when it reaches capacity. On the bottom of the tank is a petcock drain in the case that it needs to be emptied.
Installation is as simple as removing two of the fan bolts and installing the tank. Once mounted, make sure that the tank does not interfere with your lower radiator hose or your radiator petcock. Once you verify fitment, simply hook your radiator overflow to the new tank however you find best for you. The inlet on the tank is a -4AN so you can use a tube nut and tube sleeve for a hardline or a -4AN hose end. Finally you can connect a piece of ¼” vacuum hose to the overflow tube and secure it in a safe and clean location.
